TEACHING

I am as passionate about teaching as I am about my research. Preparing for each class, engaging with students, encouraging them to disagree, and rethinking my own ideas, is the most invigorating part of my professional life.

I take student feedback (through student evaluation grades as well as comments) seriously. They provide feedback about my strengths (for example: well-prepared, structured, engaging, balanced) as well as areas for improvement (for example: I don't spend enough time with students after class)

I am currently professor at Shiv Nadar University Chennai, as part of the school of law which will offer a 5-year integrated BA-LLB degree. Teaching will only commence from August 2024. I plan to teach courses in political science in the BA component, as well as courses in law and politics in the LLB component of the programme.

From 2016 to 2023, I taught in the political science department at Ashoka University (near Delhi). My average student evaluation was 4.53/5, which is particularly difficult to achieve given that I often taught large classes with 100+ students.

In Spring 2022, I was a visiting associate professor in the politics department at Princeton University, where I taught a courses titled 'Politics in India'. The course had around 40 undergraduates, half of whom were majoring in political science or public policy, while the other half were in majors such as computer science. My average student evaluation was 4.46/5 (the department average is 4.26/5).

In the summer of 2022, I taught a course on Indian Politics as part of a Princeton summer programme that included both Princeton and Ashoka undergraduate students. My average student evaluation (in terms of overall quality of the course) was 4.67/5.

This is a list of the undergraduate courses I have taught so far:

  • Introduction to Indian Politics/Politics in India

  • Introduction to Comparative Politics

  • Politics of Development

  • Religion and Politics

  • Dynamics of State Formation

  • Right Wing Politics
